Ginger has been used as a spice in cooking for thousands of years. It is particularly prominent in Asian cuisine, as it is known for it’s digestive properties. It is also used as a preservative and in flavoring agents.
Benefits and Uses
Stomachic: Ginger is best known for it’s ability to quiet an upset stomach and quell nausea. It is often used during the early months of pregnancy for morning sickness. It can also be used to treat diarrhea and indigestion as well, and is an effective remedy for food poisoning.
Malaria: Ginger root and ginger oil are effective in preventing the contraction of malaria, a fever found in sub-tropical areas.
Anti-inflammatory: Ginger oil contains a substance called Zingibain, which is analgesic in nature, and has been shown to reduce the pain associated with migraines, arthritis, muscle aches and rheumatic pain. It can be rubbed onto sore muscles to reduce muscle strain.
Stimulant: Ginger oil is a stimulant, and is effective in treating depression, anxiety, restlessness and exhaustion.
